An Introduction.

This is my first ever blog post and I don't know where to start!

Maybe an introduction of myself is in order. If you are reading this blog you likely have already scrolled through my website and read a few blurbs about me and my art so I will spare you the details of that in this blog post. I paint with watercolors, blah blah blah! We know!

I am a freelance illustrator who lives in a very small rural community in Manitoba, Canada. Nothing around my house for miles except corn fields and the occasional tree, maybe a coyote if you're lucky. Since prairie living can be extremely dull if you don't live on a homestead, I spend most of my time trying to pre-occupy myself with things that don't include:

A. Staring at cornfields.

B. Staring at more cornfields.

C. Waiting for the nearby train to stop shaking my house.

As you can probably imagine, opportunity for mental stimulation is pretty dismal around here so I pre-occupy myself with painting. Two of my favorite things to paint are birds and dinosaurs; birds because I envy them and dinosaurs because nothing is more fun than trying to come up with a design for an animal that no one has ever actually seen besides a few fossilized remnants. Curling up on my couch with some tea and my sketchbook with Sailor Moon playing in the background is my idea of a stellar time and is often when I come up with most of my ideas. Not all sketches turn out well or get finished but sitting down and fleshing out concepts is an important aspect of the creative process, even if they turn out looking ridiculously bad.
